Os Sambistas

featuring

Bosco De Oliveira

Os Sambistas with Boso Dolivera

Brazilliant!

Os Sambistas Celebrate The Story Of The Samba With Concert
Salsa band Os Sambistas joins forces with the acclaimed percussionist and
singer Bosco De Oliveira at The Queens Hall on Saturday 10th. February for a toe-tapping evening of Brazilian music featuring some of the most loved tunes from arguably the richest musical heritage on the planet.
In an evening celebrating ‘The Story Of The Samba’, the Cardiff sextet and
the London-based Brazilian journey through Brazil’s musical history, from
the earliest forms of the music to the larger-than-life bombastic sambas of
recent times.
‘Os Sambistas plays a mix of choro and samba from urban Rio de Janeiro,
and the baiao and frevo styles originally played further north in the state of
Bahia and beyond,’ says the band’s bassist and percussionist Chris O’Connor.
‘With Os Sambistas, the violin and flute take the melody accompanied by
the nylon string guitar and cavaquinho, which is a cousin of the ukulele,’ he
continues. ‘The subtle yet energetic duo of pandeiro, a Brazilian
tambourine, and tan-tan, a bass drum with a long, ethereal tone, provide
the essential groove.’
‘This combination draws the listener in, lures you with subtle melodic tones
and gets your feet moving with echoes of African rhythm. Wherever we
play, whether café bar, restaurant, night-club or arts centre, people seem
to love the sound, the beats and the intricate melodies.’
Special guest on the tour Bosco De Oliveira, recently the subject of a BBC
feature, has worked with performers of the calibre of Terry Callier and Kate
Bush as well as a long list of great British jazz and popular music names.
