TWO SHADES OF BLUES

DOUG MACLEOD

VIRGIL & THE ACCELERATORS

dOUG mClEOD

Doug MacLeod is one of the last remaining Bluesmen who learned from the old masters, lived the music, survived the life, and now continues to carry forward that valuable tradition. Within the blues world, MacLeod is known for his quality recordings which feature superb songwriting, guitar wizardry, warm soulful vocals, wit, and unforgettable live performances.

Originally from St. Louis, the man overcame abuse and a crippling stutter to emerge as one of the most highly respected Bluesmen on the scene today. Like the old masters he learned from, Doug's music expresses life and times on a level that makes the listener feel as if he knows each person inside out.

Doug is a master of the blues and has appeared twice in Tenby for Tenby Blues Festival and we just had to bring him to The Queens Hall weave his magic for you. Check out his music, videos and stories here.

Aside from being one of the finest guitar players in the business, MacLeod really connects with his audience. His sets are more than music. They are "homegrown lessons" in life and love. ………MacLeod is one of the finest songwriters, storytellers and performers in the blues. ……. In a world intoxicated with electric-everything MacLeod is preserving a lost art... A must for any serious fan of the blues and any soul who needs the healing of the blues.
Sing Out (USA)

On his first visit to Australia, Doug MacLeod was the one act I was particularly looking forward to seeing. A contributing writer to our sister publication Blues Revue, MacLeod is a great storyteller, songwriter, and raconteur and, to say the least, one of the finest exponents of acoustic Blues and slide guitar around. He played songs, each accompanied by a story, from his albums Dubb and Where I Been, both highly recommend, as well as his recent live DVD release.

VIRGIL & THE ACCELERATORS

Sharing the bill with Doug will be Virgil & The Accelerators, a sensational blues band who blew away a sell-out audience on the final day of last years' Tenby Blues Festival. Fronted by the extraordinarily talented 16yr old lead guitarist Virgil McMahon, much attention is currently being focussed on this four piece powerhouse blues act from Aberystwyth. The UK blues press are unanimously predicting a great future for Virgil who is being nurtured and backed by The Accelerators. Originally formed by Hugh Morgan (guitar and harp) and Virgil's dad Hendry (bass and vocals), The Accelerators have recently been joined by top ex-London session and performance drummer, Geoff Cox, whose own work includes stints with some of the greats of USA and UK jazz.  Be prepared to be moved and amazed - and get to see Virgil now whilst you can!

Press quotes

'Virgil McMahon is a guitar prodigy making waves in the Welsh and ripples throughout the British Blues scene' Blues in Britain Magazine

"The Accelerators are the finest blues band I've heard for some time - tight, energetic, passionate and entertaining - and 15 year old Virgil on lead guitar is truly an awesome talent".
BB Skone, Radio Pembrokeshire.

"A 15yr old year old blues guitarist called Virgil McMahon had just played the roof off the Tenby Rugby Club. From the moment that Virgil strapped on the black Les Paul until the standing ovation at the end it had been one hell of a memorable afternoon. He took us through everything from neck-strangling sustain and fast, driving solos to sensitive and violin passages, all supported by a more than competent band. I walked out into the sunshine stunned and speechless". Punter feedback on Tenby Blues Festival.
