FEET ON THE STREET - World Dance Day

SPAN ARTS and TORCH THEATRE present an exciting programme of world dance workshops that offer you ‘a chance to sample a different dance’. Workshops will be taking place throughout the year so please keep a look out for Feet on the Street adverts and brochures!

 

 

 

 

Saturday 18th February

  • HIP HOP
  • American street dance

Narberth Queens Hall
10.30am – 12.30pm

The Garage Youth Centre, Haverfordwest behind county library
2pm – 4pm

One time street performer and innovator in bringing street dance to the UK, Jan Arden was inspired to street dance by the LA based dancer Shabba Doo! (star of Breakdance the movie). Jan has worked with Sade, Simply Red, and a host of other celebrities.

  • APPALACHIAN DANCE
    With members of SHOOSTRING dance group

Narberth Queens Hall
2pm – 4pm

Six members of Appalachian dance group Shoostring will demonstrate the American folk dances of Virginia. Shoostring will give a free performance at 1.30pm in the Queens Hall.

Sunday 19th February

  • CAPOEIRA - Afro Brazilian martial art

Tenby DeValence Pavilion

Capoeira Angola is a beautiful community art form of Afro Brazilian origin. It combines dance, percussive music, acrobatics and ritual with stylized martial art movements of attack and defence, but is known by practitioners of the art as ‘the Game’. Workshops are lively and energetic challenging participants physically and mentally, whilst taking care to create an enjoyable and memorable experience led by Mestre Maxwell. Loose clothing is essential.
£5 (£4 concessions) per session

Friday 3rd March

  • TRADITIONAL WELSH AND IRISH DANCING

Narberth Queens Hall
Doors open 8pm

Span Arts teams up with Menter Iaith to present a St. Davids celebration with three Welsh bands Garej Dolwen, The O’Ceili Band and Celtish.
