Kill For A Seat Comedy Club

9-Oct-08      John Robins     mc    Gavin Webster   with support from  Simon Evans tbc

GAVIN WEBSTER

Gavin Webster's style of comedy is loud, sharp and controversial - and audiences love him for it. A definite Geordie, Gavin has superb stage presence. His material is bold and provocative yet delivered in a charming manner - which has brought him much praise and attention.

Gavin Webster has now established himself as one of the most exciting talents to emerge on the national comedy circuit in recent years. After turning his back on the comedy double-act, he went solo in 1995 and hasn't looked back.

Gavin performed in Does Doug Know with Daisy Donavon for Channel 4 as a regular team captain and currently performs at every major comedy venue throughout the UK including the prestigious Comedy Store's 'Men At Work' topical comedy night. He has also supported + LEE EVANS, + JACK DEE and + PHILL JUPITUS on tour.

"Tough talking, no nonsense, very very funny geordie wit" The Mirror

"Like a cross between Bill Hicks and Geoff from Byker Grove" Ross Noble

"Gavin Webster is ready to conquer the world.....this was virtuoso and close to the bone stuff" The Sunday Sun"

Simon Evans

With his arrogant and snobbish stage manner, the aloof Evans makes no concessions to likeability; instead leaving the brilliantly sarcastic lines to win over the audience

The way he sounds, and looks, does provide plenty of source material for Evans's superior, supercilious act as does the obvious disdain in which he holds much of the rest of the world. Other comics have bemoaned the spread of 4x4s for the suburban school run, for instance, but few as brilliantly as his contempt-filled spleen-venting

And as the pettiness and inadequacies behind his arrogance slowly emerge, the jokes work even better, revealing his routine to be smart, witty, intelligent - and worth making a detour to see.

John Robins

To round off a whirlwind first two years in comedy, John has been asked to appear in the prestigious Comedy Zone showcase at The Edinburgh Festival 2007. A show that launched the careers of many household names is set to do the same for this talented newcomer. As an act John represents the new wave of storyteller, skilfully weaving narrative, improvisation and punchy gags into his unique, self-effacing style. As a compere John quickly made his name as one of the most quick-witted, engaging MCs on the circuit. Always willing to expect the unexpected, John guarantees a great show for audiences and acts alike. He’s the latest maverick to burst out of Bristol’s hotbed of talent and he has stories to tell, banter to have, and bombs to drop.
