THEATR SOFFA: LOCKDOWN TALES – CREATING THEATRE FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

We are looking for performers to take part in our next Theatr Soffa Production!

This is an exciting virtual collaboration between Span Arts and Popty Ping Productions. Through collaborative writing & storytelling workshops led by Ceri Ashe via video calls, participants will be invited to share their experiences, anecdotes and stories from lockdown. Ceri will weave these stories together to create an exciting new piece of theatre which will be recorded as an audio play and performed as a livestreamed rehearsed reading.

Start date: Tuesday 6th October 7.30-9pm, with sessions taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If you would like to take part, please send an email to Anna Sherratt (anna@span-arts.org.uk) with your name and a sentence about why you would like to be a part of this project.

Performance date: Friday 27th November.

ABOUT CERI

Ceri is a bilingual actor, writer and theatre maker based in London and Pembrokeshire. Having specialised in verbatim theatre and community theatre when reading Drama at Manchester University, she has a passion for political theatre and telling stories from personal experience. She created a verbatim show called ‘For Sale’ which explores the issue of holiday homes in rural welsh communities. The show was performed at The John Thaw Studio in Manchester.

Ceri is artistic director of ‘Popty Ping Productions’ theatre company.

Their debut production was a play she wrote and acted in called ‘Bipolar Me’ which is based on Ceri’s experience of being diagnosed with this mental health condition. The show ran for 6 nights at the Etcetera Theatre, London and received an Off West End award for best short run and 4 star reviews in the London theatre press. ‘A necessary and inspirational production that’s as urgent as it is moving’ ( Broadway World). ‘Bipolar Me’ was also performed at Theatre Gwaun, Fishguard this February.

Ceri said – ‘For me, theatre and storytelling helps me process emotion and make sense of the world. This project will be a safe creative space where we can share our experiences of this challenging year.’
