The BIG Plant Sale is Back!

The highly-anticipated BIG Plant Sale returns on Saturday 4 May 2019 at the Town Moor, Narberth.

The BIG Plant Sale is one of the most important dates on Pembrokeshire’s gardening calendar!  It’s been a much-loved part of the Narberth calendar for so long that the spring in Pembrokeshire wouldn’t be the same without it.

Not only is it an important date in the gardening calendar, it is also hugely important for Span Arts as it helps raises funds for the Narberth-based charity committed to providing performances and arts experiences for people from all over Pembrokeshire. Last year, over 1,200 visitors attended the event over the course of the day, and we hope to attract even more this year!

With it being a hugely successful event, attendees travel from near and far to take advantage of West Wales’ finest plant-sellers, as well as the quality live music, local food and drink, friendly atmosphere and this year we are very excited to introduce our Talks and Demo Tent.

“Between a Bog and a Hard Rock” a talk led by Christina Shand all about the development and inspiration behind the making of Dyffryn Fernant Garden which she started from a wilderness in 1996.

“From Wild Roses to Frankincense” is a talk led by Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic Independent Consultant, Lowri Harris, exploring the power of plants in our well-being and self care.

“House Leeks aka Sempervivums.” Judy Rumbelow from Cold Comfort Plants will be talking about these fascinating plants that are great fun for all to grow including children and new gardeners. Judy will discuss, how to keep them looking their best, how to propagate them and how you might use them to make a display in an old sink or shallow pot!

There will also be talks on Plastic Free Narberth as well as Land Workers Alliance – supporting small scale producers and sustainable farming.

Expect textiles, floristry, surf wear and more!

The Plant Sale hosts a huge range of growers with an impressive range of flowers, herbs and vegetable plants, as well as specialist stock including bamboos, pond plants, succulents and cacti. The event has been described as “the start of the summer social season” with it being a diverse and fun-packed day for the community, bringing people from all over the three counties to the idyllic Pembrokeshire town.

Span Arts welcomes plant donations for their own stall and garden-related prizes for their Big Green Raffle. Our aim is to raise funds for the organisation by also selling all sorts of wonderful plants. So if you have an abundance of tomatoes or too many chilli plants than you’re window sill can withstand then we would gladly welcome them.

The charity is always grateful for volunteers to help out with the BIG Plant Sale at every level, so feel free to contact the office on 01834 869323 for more information if you are interested.

With just over a week to go until this year’s BIG plant sale, we have a couple of spaces available for stalls if you fancy joining in give us a call to book!
