The New Season of Comedy Commences!
The Regency Hall in Saundersfoot plays host to Span Arts’ longstanding Comedy Club for the launch of our Summer Season on Friday 15th June.
Kicking off the line up, is the UK’s foremost guitar-wielding, loop-layering stand-up comedian Rob Deering who joins forces with Karen Bayley, the first ever female winner of the prestigious Comedy Store King Gong award.
Rob Deering performs stand-up comedy with music using a guitar, a loop pedal and his voice to create impressive rock and pop soundscapes – and do jokes, of course.
“Ingenious and hilarious” – The Guardian
Along with being one of the most in-demand headliners on the UK circuit, he’s toured nationally and performed solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe many times since starting out in comedy in the year 2000. His late-night, live-music comedy pop quiz ‘Beat This’ is a festival institution, on London’s South Bank, at Wales’ Green Man and many more besides Edinburgh.
Joining Rob Deering will be Karen Bayley, a midlands based act hailing from Birmingham. Karen has been on the circuit for over a decade and made a name for herself early on in her career reaching the semi-final of the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards as well as reaching the finals of both the BBC New Comedy Awards Showcase and Babycham Funny Women.
Delightfully saucy, her friendly and confident stage presence, combined with a killer wit, an infectious giggle and some devastating one-liners make her a comedic force to be reckoned with. Karen’s delightfully saucy and spiky edge and no nonsense attitude strikes a perfect pitch with men and women alike.
“Bayley’s material surprises with inspired and sparkling punchlines…with comic timing that is rarely less than brilliant. An assured performer who doesn’t have much trouble getting audiences laughing.” - Chortle
Compere for the evening is Jim Smallman, one of the most in-demand MCs in the country. Comedian, writer, podcaster, voice artist, wrestling promoter and some other things, Jim’s set is a perfect blend of storytelling and improvisation.
“Beautiful comedy from the stand-up who wears his life on his skin” The Sunday Times
